I provide personalised support for older people and those with life-limiting conditions to improve their quality of life and prepare for the end of life.
It is my intention to support individuals, families and carers.
I also wish to contribute to change for communities and society: to bring about more positive attitudes around ageing; create systems that help people to live with a good quality of life; and, to break down the taboos that exist around death and dying.
End of Life Doula Services
‘Quality of life’ is at the heart of my Recreational Therapy degree in Leisure & Health, and is one of my core values.
I am committed to life-long learning and have completed certificates in Community Services as well as recent End of Life Doula training.
I feel that my personal and professional experiences over more than thirty years have given me unique insights, and allowed me to develop the wisdom and strength required to support people facing large transitions in life, such as the loss and grief related to ageing, illness and dying.
Life Story Sessions Program
I offer time to listen to life stories that are meaningful, because storytelling reminds us to honour cherished experiences.
Recreational Therapy
I facilitate changes to leisure activities that enhance social and recreational engagement, and specialise in reminiscence activities for people with dementia.
End of Life Doula
I provide comprehensive guidance on Advance Care Directives and offer empathetic, tailored support for those facing a life-limiting illness, suitable for adults of all ages.
Funeral Celebrant
I design and facilitate personalised funeral and memorial services, respecting your unique beliefs and preferences, including non-standard ceremonies and living wakes.
I value diversity, celebration,
quality of life & freedom of choice.
Briget’s Story
I have been in caring roles throughout my life. Some of these have been unpaid, supporting a few family members with mental health issues, cancer, ageing and dementia. Much of my paid employment has been in the caring space: providing support to people with disability, older people, and people with dementia, often in the community, and sometimes in residential care.
In my personal life, I have had experiences of loss and grief that have shaped who I am as a person, and have inspired me to support other people experiencing loss and grief. In addition to understanding the complexities of being a carer, I also understand what it is like to be cared for. I have undergone extensive medical treatment for cancer, as well as a range of alternative health treatments for a chronic, debilitating illness that took years to recover from. I know what it is like to deal with your own mortality, and I also know what it is like to live with a low quality of life.
